Exodus 12:1
“The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.”
Observation
Throughout their slavery, the Israelites lived and operated on the schedule of their masters. Now they needed a new and specific family rhythm, so God established a reference point for them. “This is now the first month for all of you.”
Application
As seasons change, so does the rhythm–but there must be cohesion and unity in the rhythm. Just as the time signature in music establishes the ‘1’ beat of each measure, life needs rhythmic markers. What are the things in my life, my family, and in the church ohana which establish the rhythm?
If I’m not sure of them, I can’t stick with them. If I can’t stick with them, I can’t communicate them…and then we can’t unite around them.
This week I need to make sure the time signature is right, and in sync with the conductor.
Prayer
God, help me to get the rhythm right! May you be glorified in my life and my family as we keep the right rhythm together.
