Scripture
Acts 26:27-29
“King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do.” Then Agrippa said to Paul, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” Paul replied, “Short time or long–I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains.”
Observation
Paul was on trial, defending himself against a prosecution team that were pursuing the death penalty for him. I would have expected his full attention to be on his legal defense–instead, we see that even in the middle of his courtroom defense, Paul was actively looking for opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus with those around him, despite his dire circumstances.
Application
I don’t have that kind of single-minded focus on the gospel! It’s easy for me to let my mind be consumed with the urgency of the immediate crisis, instead of maintaining focus on the things that truly matter even when the pressure is on. I want to develop this kind of intentional focus that Paul had. I may be under pressure–but the good news must be shared! I may be inconvenienced…but the gospel needs to get out! I may be feeling frustration, or even anger…but people need a savior!
This week, I need to look for opportunities to share Christ with the world. When I am relaxed, and when I am tense. When it is convenient, and even when it isn’t.
Prayer
God, thank you for the amazing news of the gospel! Help me to daily share your good news with the urgency it deserves–because that is the thing which truly matters, even when the pressure is on.
Thank you for being my Lord, and my Savior!
