Scripture
Deuteronomy 20:1
“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.
Observation
WHEN, not IF. “When” you go out to battle. “When” you see your enemies. “When” they are armed and dangerous. “When” they outnumber you…don’t be afraid of them.
The things that mankind views as worst-case possibilities to fear, God says “It’s not IF…it’s WHEN. And don’t be afraid, because I am with you!”
Application
Fear is nothing more than the anticipation of what ‘might’ happen, but hasn’t happened yet. People fear the dark, because of what ‘might’ be hiding in it. People fear heights, because they ‘might’ fall off the edge of the cliff.
Facing an enemy that is better armed than me, and that outnumbers me, is a fearful situation! There are so many terrible things that might happen…and yet, God says “don’t be afraid!”
He knows every enemy that I will face, and every challenge. He knows my limits and my capacity, and he knows the strength of my enemy…and He says “don’t be afraid!”
He has promised to be faithful, and His strength is greater than any enemy I could face–and so He can confidently tell me not to fear.
It’s not a question of IF I face the enemy, but WHEN. It’s not a question of IF they’ll be stronger than me, but WHEN.  And it’s not a question of IF He will sustain and protect me and bring me victory…but WHEN.
Prayer
God, thank you for this reminder of your faithfulness and your strength! Thank you that you are greater than any enemy I could face, and that my future in you is never uncertain.
