Scripture
Deuteronomy 32:48-50a – 48 The LORD spoke to Moses that very same day, saying,  49 Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession.  50 Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people…
Deuteronomy 33:1 – Now this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death
Observation
God had clearly told Moses that he was going to die–not ‘someday’, but ‘now, right over on that mountain’!
Moses could have responded in many ways–he could have grumbled, complained, or started praying for God to change His mind. He could have withdrawn in depression, and had a big pity party.
But Moses did none of these things: Instead, he used the little time he had left to speak a blessing over the tribes of Israel.
Application
God doesn’t always do what I want. There have been seasons that lasted far longer than I wanted, and there have been seasons that ended far sooner than I hoped they would. God hears me when I pray, but His plan doesn’t always line up with my preferences!
How do I respond, when God doesn’t do what I want? Do I accept His greater plan, or do I fight against Him? Like Moses, I want to trust God at a greater level: Not just because He’s going along with me…but because He is sovereign over me.
Today I choose to trust His sovereignty, instead of trusting my own preference. I choose to speak blessing, even when I’m looking at the mountain peak where my story ends.
Prayer
God, thank you for being sovereign over all things! I choose to trust you–not just when you agree with me, but instead a total trust regardless of whether I get my way. Thank you that you love me, and you’ve blessed me! Help me to be a blessing to others, instead of becoming self-focused and bitter about things I cannot change!
